Another new release as Sailor revamps its catalog and prepares for upcoming price increases, the new 1911 Casual L Stable Gold Trim Muted series features four pens in understated matte colors and equipped with a metal gripping section.
Most notable about this release, however, is that Sailor is making the iconic 1911 Large model available with gold-plated stainless steel nibs, rather than solid gold nibs in 14k, 18k, or 21k.
While we normally favor pens with solid gold nibs here at PacificPenWorks.com, we have to admit we’re intrigued to see these attractive-looking pens in person when they arrive in just a couple days. And Sailor is promising that the gold-plated stainless steel nibs will be crafted with the same attention to precise tipping sizes and writing quality as the solid gold nibs for which the company is so justly celebrated.
The underlying message in this new release is that big changes are coming to the Sailor line-up soon. Details remain uncertain, but we can expect both major reductions in the number of Sailor models made available, as well as very significant price rises in those being retained or newly introduced.
For now, our remaining stock of Sailor pens is still available at current pricing. Nib choices are limited for some models, but fortunately there seems to be a relative abundance of the 21k Sailor Music nibs, which serve as an excellent starting point for our special nib customizations. Regrinds to finer tipping sizes are also available.
