Description
The third in this popular series, the Pelikan Souverän M600 Art Collection Georg Tippel fountain pen will be a favorite for many. Presented in a book-like presentation box which includes a miniature reproduction of Tippel’s original poster, this is also a pen highly appropriate as a very special gift item.
Crafted with a high-quality, self-polishing resin, the cap, front section, and piston knob reflect both durability and sophistication. The pen is also adorned with signature gold-plated details—including the classic double rings and the renowned Pelikan beak-shaped clip—finished in 24-karat gold.
The special “Aurora” engraving technique applies a guilloché surface to the barrel for a colorful, light-bending holographic-like effect. Ten layers of polished lacquer then provide for a smooth, even surface and bring the colors to a high sheen.
At the core of this release is Tippel’s 1899 poster “Grundfarben,” originally produced for Pelikan’s inaugural poster competition. The piece captures the emerging interplay between creative artistry and brand messaging that defined the early era of modern advertising.
In “Grundfarben,” Tippel depicts the pelican as a devoted caregiver tending to its young—a motif drawn from longstanding legend and closely linked with ideas of care, duty, and reliability. Through his deliberate use of composition, color, and form, he elevated what could have been a straightforward advertisement into an image with lasting narrative impact.
The poster conveys more than a product; it reflects enduring ideals—continuity, accountability, and dedication—that continue to shape Pelikan’s identity today.
The M600 is also a pen model which appeals to a wide base of fountain pen users. Neither over-sized nor mid-sized, this full-size fountain pen is perfect for those for whom the larger M1000 and M800 models are slightly too big, or the M400 too small. Designed with a keen eye for ergonomic ease, this is a pen that will be a pleasure to write with for most users.
Pelikan revolutionized the fountain pen world with the introduction of its differential piston-fill system in the late 1920’s. Nearly a hundred years later, subtle refinements in engineering and material make this system even more reliable and impressive. With its generous ink capacity, the M600 Art Collection Rudi Rother makes the most of this feature.
Pelikan 14k solid gold nib units are extremely well-suited to our noted nib customizations. We recommend the Broad nib for the best results with customizations such as Stub, Cursive Italic, and Architects Point. And if the Pelikan Extra Fine is not fine enough for you, regrinds to Needlepoint are also available from us.
As a 14k nib, the M600 is also a good choice for our Flex modification, though as a smooth-writing rigid nib it is not as inherently well-suited for Flex as are soft and semi-soft nibs from manufacturers such as Pilot and Platinum. Choose the Extra Fine or Fine nib if you’re looking for the most possible line-width variation from this Flex customization.
