Platinum Cartridge Inks, like Platinum Bottled Inks, are available in a variety of formulations – dye-based, pigment, and carbon. Platinum cartridge inks are proprietary – they can only be used in Platinum brand fountain pens. Read our quick guide below to find the right Platinum cartridge fountain pen ink for you!

Description

Platinum Cartridge Inks are an excellent choice for filling your Platinum brand cartridge-converter fountain pen. Most of the colors that Platinum makes available in its bottled fountain pen inks are available in cartridge versions as well:

Dye-Stuff Inks: Available from Platinum in Black, and Blue-Black, with Red available only in the bottled version. Dyestuff inks are formulated from dyes dissolved in water and are considered the safest, wettest, and easiest flowing among fountain pen inks. They tend to be more washable and easier to clean up after as well.
Pigment Inks: Available in cartridge form only in Blue, with a brown Brun Sepia and Rose Red available in bottles. Unlike dyestuff inks, the color in pigment inks is derived from microscopic particles suspended in a liquid, rather than dissolved dyes. This results in increased water resistance and permanence, but also means these inks require more regular cleaning of your fountain pen.
Carbon Inks: Similar to pigment inks, Platinum’s Carbon Black is formulated using microscopic carbon particles suspended in a liquid. Carbon inks are faster-drying, more permanent, and more water resistant than a dye-based ink would be. Another carbon ink, Chou Kuro is available only in bottle form at present. As with pigment inks, regular cleaning of your fountain pen is recommended when using carbon inks.
