Description
The Nagahara Model #1 King of Pen Limited Edition features hand-turned ribbed ebonite over a nickel-chrome plated brass body. Each 1.5mm rounded tipping point has been personally crafted by Yukio Nagahara, starting from an oversized tipping point specially produced for this edition by Sailor. The metal grip provides a good heft and balance to this singular writing instrument.
Nib master Yukio Nagahara is the son of the late Nobuyoshi Nagahara, famous for his development of Sailor Specialty Nibs. After years at Sailor himself, Yukio Nagahara continues the family tradition of innovative nib work through his own company, The Nib Shaper. The Model #1 is just the first of a series of special limited editions which will showcase both innovative pen design as well as Yukio Nagahara’s famous nib work.
In unmodified form, the nib’s writing surface produces about .7mm to.8mm wide wet lines. This is equivalent to a European Medium or Japanese Broad or Double Broad. The writing point is a large ball-shaped tip. But since the diameter of the tipping material is about 1.5mm, it is an excellent choice for customizations such as Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique.
It is also highly suitable for our Architects Point customization. If you would like a Naginata Togi-style Kodachi grind, choose Architects Point as the customization and mention your preference for the Kodachi grind in the order notes.
Without customization, the ball-shaped tip produces an almost pencil-like feedback. While this nib can be reground to almost any size or shape, we recommend against regrinds to extremely fine sizes such as Extra Fine and Needlepoint as this will effectively eliminate the unique features of this very special nib.
This is a cartridge-converter pen which can be filled with any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with the provided converter. For best results, we strongly recommend using inks from a known and established fountain pen company, such as the inks we offer from Sailor and from Pelikan, Pilot, and Platinum. It can also use convenient Sailor brand ink cartridges, available in 28 different carefully nuanced colors.
The chance to own a true Nagahara nib is not to be missed – and this beautifully and uniquely crafted fountain pen provides the perfect setting. Each pen includes a limited edition certificate along with a button, special ink, and leather pen case.
