Description
The CP1 was introduced in 1974 and designed by renowned industrial designer Gerd A. Müller, the same designer responsible for the Lamy 2000. Conceived as a slim, cylindrical writing instrument rooted in Bauhaus principles, the CP1 emphasized functional minimalism over ornamentation. Its name derives from “Cylindric Pen No. 1,” reflecting its clean geometric form and understated aesthetic.
We make the CP1 available with your choice from among all six 14k Z56 tipping sizes. Whether you want a daily writer for note-taking, or a customized nib for journaling or calligraphy, there is a Lamy nib available that will provide the right starting point.
The Broad nib provides the best basis for regrind customizations such as Architects Point, Cursive Italic, but the Medium can also be a suitable starting point for these modifications.
Lamy also produces their own stock oblique nibs in Oblique Medium and Oblique Broad. While these stock obliques are highly rounded and provide little line-width variation, they are a great way of exploring whether position-sensitive nibs such as this are a good fit for your writing style – with our 30 day nib exchange policy, you can always send a recent purchase back to us for a nib swap if you discover that the nib you’ve initially chosen doesn’t best suit your needs and writing style.
Many customers also choose to order a stock oblique and then add on our own customization for Left Oblique – the result is a crisper line with more line-width variation than is provided by the stock nib itself in unaltered form.
Though these smooth-writing rigid nibs are not as inherently well-suited to the Flex modification as are soft and semi-soft nibs from manufacturers such as Pilot and Platinum, as 14k nibs they can still be modified for Flex to provide the feedback and line-width variation associated with this modification – contact us if you have questions about whether a Flex customization would be the right choice for your writing needs.
A cartridge-converter pen, the Lamy CP1 can fill using convenient Lamy brand ink cartridges for a no-fuss, no-muss writing experience. When fitted with a Lamy brand converter, it can also fill using any bottled fountain pen ink.
For those just beginning to explore fountain pens, the CP1 offers not only a reliable writing tool, but also an accessible way to gain entry into a larger fountain pen culture of design, history, and collecting. And when equipped with a 14k solid gold nib, the Lamy CP1 can offer a writing experience equal to that of many writing instruments costing hundreds of dollars more.
