Description
This is not the usual Model 3 Iterum fitted with a steel nib; instead, it features an excellent Fine 18k nib paired with a beautifully engineered feed. The Franklin Christoph Iterum fountain pen incorporates a distinctive “block” thread at the front of the section, allowing the cap and barrel to screw together in just over one full rotation. These threads are smooth rather than sharp and are positioned to prevent the fingers from slipping forward toward the nib.
The pen offers three filling options: the included ink converter, international cartridges, or—by applying a small amount of silicone grease to the nib unit threads—eyedropper filling directly into the barrel. The eyedropper method should be used with care, as it can increase the likelihood of burping, particularly with changes in temperature or barometric pressure.
Weighing 21 grams and measuring 5 9/16 inches when capped, this is a full-size fountain pen. The cap and barrel both feature a subtle taper, allowing the cap to seat precisely and securely. The cap is inlaid with a burgundy disc engraved with the Franklin Christoph logo, while the clip is engraved with four diamond shapes.
The rhodium-colored clip complements the rhodium plating on the nib. Overall, the design and engineering are understated and effective, with a clear emphasis on simplicity. The pen comes without its original box or papers and is from the John Mottishaw collection.
