Description
This original Bexley Red Pearl Limited Edition fountain pen is from a very early series as indicated by the simple hard rubber feed and gripping section, the generic nib, and the bandless cap. Stamped #12 on the barrel end medallion, it was delivered in an unusual hand-crafted hardwood box imprinted on the side and capped with a friction fitted plug.
The Fine semi-flexible nib is unusual for Bexley pens as it does not have the Bexley imprint, rather a scrollwork found on generic nibs from German manufacturer Bock, which supplied the nibs to Columbus, Ohio based Bexley.
Happily, the lack of imprint makes this nib a notably good candidate for adding additional Flex as a customization. It is also is a highly suitable candidate for regrinds to finer tipping sizes or as a Fine Stub or Cursive Italic.
With a fresh ink bladder now installed, this pen is in Near Mint condition, much like the day it came out of the Bexley workshop. The presentation box includes all the original documentation. The acetate cap and barrel of this pen were hand polished, reflecting the passion for perfection that propelled this 1990’s company.
This writing instrument is from the personal collection of PacificPenWorks nib specialist John Mottishaw.
