Meet The Nib Specialists

Nib specialists, also known as nibmeisters, are skilled artisans who specialize in the tuning and customization of fountain pen nibs. At PacificPenWorks.com, we are proud to offer the services of two of the most experienced and well-known nib specialists at work today, Mike Masuyama and John Mottishaw.

Besides nib tuning and nib customization work, nibmeisters also straighten and repair damaged nibs, and can often address issues related to ink flow and filling mechanisms. Leak repairs and minor cap and barrel repairs may also be done where possible.

Nibmeisters tend to come from varied backgrounds, often with training in fine arts, metal sculpture, watch repair, and related fields. Training under an established nib specialist for a year or more is usually considered standard before moving on to more advanced customization and repair work.

Mike and John bring with them decades of experience in the world of fountain pen tuning and customization, and have originated what are now many of the most popular nib customizations available, such as Architects Point and Super-Fine Super-Flex.
