Description
Produced in 2002 as part of anedition of just 15 pieces, this Loiminchay Mandarin Supreme Limited Edition is number 6 in the series. The barrel-end knob is engraved “MS 6/15 V.” The series sold out quickly upon release, and today, examples from this first edition—especially those in Near Mint condition with original boxes and papers—are exceedingly rare.
Measuring 6 1/2 inches capped and weighing 52 grams, the Loiminchay Mandarin Supreme 2002 is a substantial writing instrument. Yet despite its size and heft, it is remarkably well-balanced and comfortable in the hand. The thoughtfully designed grip section and the strategic placement of the barrel threads make for an effortless writing experience.
The yellow urushi lacquer has been meticulously hand-polished to a brilliant sheen, lending both visual appeal and a luxurious tactile quality. The dragon motif is elegantly echoed throughout the design—from the richly patterned fabric of the presentation box, to the sculpted dragon clip, and finally to the gold imprint adorning the top of the nib.
Fitted with a large #8 two-tone Fine nib, this pen writes smoothly and remains in pristine condition. A rare and desirable piece, it comes from the John Mottishaw collection.
