This Pelikan M400 HF is probably from the 1980’s as it shows the HF imprint below the circular Pelikan logo. It is in Near Mint condition.
HF stands for “Harte Fein” – Hard Fine. As Pelikan transitioned from earlier, softer nibs to modern, smooth-writing rigid nibs, the HF marking was used to designate these new, smoother writing nibs. Once these nibs became the standard, the “H” was dropped. This nib is therefore a historical marker of this transitional phase in Pelikan’s approach to nib manufacture.
