Description
The remarkable quality and density of engraving on this Waterman 452 1/2 V Sterling Silver fountain pen makes it an enticing collectible. However, one hundred years after being produced, it is also fully capable of serving as an everyday writing instrument.
The 452 1/2 V Sterling Silver was among the higher end offerings of Waterman’s Ideal Fountain Pen Company. The design and engraving seem emblematic of the 1920’s, with the older stylings of art nouveau in the process of transforming into the more modern art deco.
The newly-installed bladder holds an impressive ink capacity for a pen of this size. As with any vintage pen, we strongly recommend the use of conventional dye-based fountain pen inks, such as those we offer from manufacturers such as Pelikan, Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor.
This pen is in excellent condition, with only a minor dent on the barrel end. That barrel end is stamped with the Waterman factory code 452 1/2 V that is interpreted as follows:
4=Sterling Silver
5=lever filler
2=nib size
1/2=narrow barrel
V=vest pocket pen
This pen is from the personal collection of PacificPenWorks nib specialist John Mottishaw.
