Pilot Vanishing Point 18k Black Nib Units are provided in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad and stock Stub tipping sizes. These can be used in any contemporary Vanishing Point or Decimo  fountain pen.

While the plating specifically matches the pens in black or ruthenium trim, only the very tip of the nib is ever visible while writing. Because of this, matching the plating of the nib to the trim of the pen is much less critical than it normally is in the fountain pen world – you should feel free to use any Vanishing Point nib in any Vanishing Point or Decimo pen, regardless of trim color.

Since these are complete nib assemblies, they are eligible for our complimentary nib tuning services and can be customized with any of the modifications compatible with 18k gold nibs. For those interested in regrinds such as Architects Point, Cursive Italic, or Stub, broader nib sizes typically yield the best results.

The standard Vanishing Point Stub nib offers only subtle line variation out of the box. However, because of its generous tipping, it serves as an ideal foundation for custom regrinds. It’s quite common for customers to select the factory Stub specifically to pair it with our own Stub or Italic customization.

Each nib unit is supplied with a Pilot CON-40 converter, making it ready for use with bottled ink. We highly recommend Pilot’s Iroshizuku line, available in over twenty vibrant and sophisticated shades. These nib units are also compatible with Pilot’s proprietary ink cartridges, which come in a wide array of distinctive colors.
