Yukio Nagahara, the son of pioneering nib crafter Nobuyoshi Nagahara, carries on the family tradition of producing unique specialty nibs which provide a very special writing experience on the page.

This edition centers on the renowned Nagahara Eagle Nib. Crafted from stainless steel with gold plating, the nib is an impressive feat of artisanal engineering, immediately recognizable by its pronounced downward-curving tip.

• Eagle-Inspired Geometry: The intentionally arched “beak” shape echoes the profile of an eagle’s bill, delivering a distinctive ink flow and a responsive feel under varying pressure.

• Expressive Writing Character: Exclusive to Nagahara’s design approach, this specialized grind produces an italic-style calligraphic line, adding fluid variation and elegance to every stroke.

• Artisan Handwork: Each nib is individually shaped and finished by Nagahara-san himself, resulting in very limited availability and making every pen a singular example of his craftsmanship.

Each Eagle nib provided on the Gladius Blue Grotto is personally crafted by Yukio Nagahara, utilizing a German-produced steel nib as the starting point. The feed and section of the pen are specially adjusted to allow for the ink flow necessary for the Eagle nib – to preserve the uniqueness of this writing instrument, we do not offer any of our own tuning or customization services.

The Gladius Blue Grotto is a piston-fill pen with a generous ink capacity. It can fill using any bottled fountain pen ink, including those we offer from companies including Pelikan, Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor.
