Description
This Loiminchay Golden Mai Rice Limited Edition fountain pen, completed on March 3, 2003, measures 6 ½ inches capped and weighs 46 grams. Despite its substantial presence, the pen remains remarkably comfortable in hand, its balance offsetting the weight.
The surface has been polished to a silky smoothness, revealing layered tones of gold, brown, and black that evoke the granular texture of rice. Both the cap top and barrel end feature delicate mosaics, each composed of individually inlaid, precisely cut pieces of white eggshell.
Fitted with an 18K two-tone Medium Fine nib in pristine condition, the pen is accompanied by its complete presentation: papers, presentation box, black kimono, and original outer box are all in Near Mint condition.
Founded in New York in the late 1990s, Loiminchay blended Chinese artistic traditions with fine pen craftsmanship—its name translating to a studio devoted to understanding essential ideas.
The brand’s limited editions, often incorporating urushi lacquer, jade, and intricate inlays, were produced in very small numbers and are celebrated for their synthesis of Eastern aesthetics and Western technique.
This Golden Mai Rice fountain pen comes from the personal collection of PacificPenWorks nib specialist John Mottishaw.
