Sailor 14k nibs are primarily made available in the 1911 Standard and 1911 Pro Gear Slim models. From everyday note-taking to a customized nib for signatures and calligraphy, there is a Sailor nib to meet your needs.
Each Sailor pen you purchase from us can receive our free nib tuning services, along with our noted nib customizations – see below for suggestions on which nibs are best for which customizations.
Please note that while we offer Flex customizations on Sailor 14k nibs, these are smooth-writing stiff nibs and are not as inherently well-suited for Flex as are Soft and Semi-Soft nibs from manufacturers such as Pilot and Platinum.

Extra Fine
Tipping Size: .2 mm
Description: Provides a very fine line for everyday writing.
Recommended Customizations: The best choice for Flex. Can also be reground to Needlepoint, or to Flex and Needlepoint.
Fine
Tipping Size: .3 mm
Description: Provides a fine line excellent for everyday writing and note-taking.
Recommended Customizations: Can be modified for Flex. Choose broader nibs for regrind customizations.
Medium Fine
Tipping Size: .35 mm
Description: Provides a consistent medium fine line – excellent for smooth everyday writing and note-taking.
Recommended Customizations: Can also be reground to Needlepoint or Flex. Choose broader nibs for regrind customizations.
Medium
Tipping Size: .4 mm
Description: Provides a consistent medium line – excellent for smooth everyday writing and note-taking.
Recommended Customizations: The finest nib size we can recommend for regrind customizations such as Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, but the effects will be very subtle, with just a hint of line-width variation – the Broad and Music nibs will be a better choice for most users. Also suitable for the modification for added Flex.
Broad
Tipping Size: .6 mm
Description: Provides a consistent broad line with a very smooth writing experience.
Recommended Customizations: An excellent choice for regrind customizations such as Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique – will provide significant line-width variation while still being suitable for everyday writing. Can be provided with added Flex, but this will add to the nib’s feedback without providing much additional line-width variation.
Music
Tipping Size: 1.1 mm
Description: Not a true double-tined Music nib, but simply a very broad stock Stub with a generous ink flow. Provides a very broad line with a very smooth writing experience.
Recommended Customizations: An excellent choice for regrind customizations such as Stub, Cursive Italic, but choose the Zoom for our Architects Point customization. Not recommended for added Flex unless you simply want a nib with more feedback.
Zoom
Tipping Size: .9 mm
Description: This unique faceted nib provides for a different line-width depending on the angle at which the pen is held – unmodified, it doesn’t provide line-width variation within a single flowing line, but allows for writing individual separate lines with differing line-widths.
Recommended Customizations: The best choice from any manufacturer for our Architects Point customization. Not recommended for added Flex unless you simply want a nib with more feedback.
