Description
This Salz Brothers oversize red hard rubber fountain pen was made in New York City and measures 5.6 inches long capped and has a large diameter as well, making it a handful. The fresh bladder is commensurately large giving it a big ink supply.
This pen was manufactured around 1925 and was in competition with and likely inspired by the Parker “Big Red”. They never achieved the market share of Parker and for that reason are scarce today, especially in this size, material and color.
The Salz company also made the diminutive Peter Pan pens which demonstrated the extreme size range of pens of the 1920’s. This is not an easy pen to find today, especially in this condition. It comes from the John Mottishaw collection.
