Description
This Sheaffer’s Tuckaway 875 fountain pen is in very good condition, free of chips or scratches, with its trim and nib both exceptionally well preserved. An ink-view window at the base of the section provides a practical touch, allowing the writer to see at a glance when the pen is running low on ink.
The compact, spring-loaded pocket clip—a hallmark of the Tuckaway design—was approved for use by the U.S. Armed Forces at the close of the Second World War, as its discreet profile could be concealed beneath a uniform pocket flap, unlike longer, more conspicuous clips. The sharply defined barrel imprint clearly identifies the manufacturer’s location as Fort Madison, Iowa, a detail appreciated by collectors.
Despite its short form, the Tuckaway offers excellent balance and comfort in the hand, particularly when the cap is posted on the barrel end. While this example no longer retains its original box or papers, it is presented in a handsome magnetic-closing protective case for safekeeping and display.
