The Andromeda Galaxy is the nearest large spiral galaxy to the Milky Way, located about 2.5 million light-years away in the constellation also known as Andromeda. It is on a slow collision course with our galaxy, expected to merge with the Milky Way in roughly 4–5 billion years.
