Description
With its white star emblem and 4810 nib imprint, this Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Black Gold brass piston-filler from the 1990’s is an instantly recognizable writing instrument. This iconic model has become the flagship model of the Montblanc brand.
Montblanc has been producing writing instruments of note since its founding in 1906. With its genius for marketing and chain of worldwide boutiques, it has become perhaps the most recognizable name in the world of quality fountain pens.
Other European manufacturers such as Lamy, Pelikan, and Visconti produce fountain pens of equal style and quality, as do Japanese brands such as Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor, and often at a significantly lower price point. Nevertheless, the prestige and familiarity of the Montblanc name remains a given – these are fountain pens notable for retaining and even increasing their resale value over the years.
This is a piston-fill fountain pen which can refill using any bottled fountain pen ink. For the best writing performance, we strongly recommend the use of conventionally formulated fountain pen inks, such as those we choose to offer ourselves.
Measuring 5.8 inches long and weighing 29 grams, the 149 remains a model best suited to those who prefer a hefty writing instrument. With only minor plate wear and light scuffing, this pen is virtually indistinguishable from from a brand new pen – and the 14k nib and ebonite feed add to its scarcity and collectibility.
