The graceful lines of the Yuzen model give the Eboya Yuzen Tanshin Red a memorable appearance. Hand polished ebonite is a classic material for high quality fountain pens, and few if any companies can match Eboya’s command of this very special material.

Eboya is the artisanal offshoot of Nikko Ebonite, the supplier of ebonite to most of Japan’s most noted pen brands. Their ebonite hard rubber is sustainably harvested from the Asian rubber gum tree, continuing a centuries-old tradition of the use of this material.

Using an ebonite body fountain pen is a unique tactile experience. Users describe the experience in many ways, but natural ebonite hard rubber has a warm, personal feel that distinguishes it from more highly processed substances.

Perhaps surprisingly, ebonite is also an amazingly durable material. Though it’s wise to keep your pen ebonite pen out of direct sunlight for long periods of time, this resilient substance can last for decades. Many ebonite body pens from the early 20th century are still in daily use a century or more after being produced.

Each Yuzen fountain pen is equipped with a 14-karat gold #5 nib crafted by Bock, the renowned German nib manufacturer which also supplies nibs to many of the best-known European pen brands. These nibs serve as excellent starting points for our complimentary nib tuning and our noted nib customizations.

Writers interested in expressive line variation can opt for a Medium nib reworked into a Cursive Italic or Stub. For added Flex, we recommend modifying either the Fine or Medium Fine nibs. If you prefer even finer lines, we also offer regrinds to Extra Fine and Needlepoint.

When used as a cartridge-converter pen, the Yuzen is compatible with standard international cartridges (both short and long), along with most standard converters. We include a Pelikan-made international converter and starter cartridge at no additional charge with each Eboya fountain pen.

But for those seeking even higher ink capacity, the Yuzen can also be used as an eyedropper filler. Remove the cartridge or converter and you can use the supplied eyedropper to add as much as 3cc of ink.
